The Systane iLux2 MGD Thermal Pulsation System can help eye care practitioners build strong, trusting relationships with their patients by boosting the credibility of their treatment recommendations through direct visualization of the disease and tracking it over time using stored meibomian gland images, according to Alcon.
“We are excited about the recent clearance of our Systane iLux2 innovation, which will put digital visualization, meibography and other key features into the hands of practitioners,” said Szaronos. “With a full suite of leading technology and implementation and retention programs now available, as well as peace-of-mind pathways to migrate to our next generation technology, we truly believe there is no reason to wait to start offering MGD procedures today.”
Alcon has introduced the Systane iLux2 Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) Thermal Pulsation System. With new imaging technology that captures infrared photos and HD video of the meibomian glands, the handheld device allows patients to see the need for treatment, visualize their procedure, and experience results in as little as 1 week.
Systane iLux2 Key features:
- Advanced Imaging & Video: Features integrated infrared imaging and HD video, allowing your eye doctor to capture and display the state of your meibomian glands on screen.
- Real-Time Replay: Patients can watch their procedure and see a “before and after” comparison immediately, helping to visualize the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Customized Treatment: Doctors can individually tailor the heat and pressure applied across different zones of the eyelid, ensuring therapy is directed exactly where it is needed.
- Fast Procedure Times: The entire in-office treatment for both eyes takes just 8 to 12 minutes.
- Long-Lasting Relief: A single treatment session can improve tear film stability and reduce dry eye symptoms, with effects lasting up to 12 months.
The Systane iLux2 MGD Thermal Pulsation System expands Alcon’s current dry eye treatment offerings and allows practitioners to tailor MGD treatment to the needs of each of their patients in 8 to 12 minutes.
- The device’s imaging technology allows patients to view both their meibomian glands and treatment through infrared imaging and HD video of the procedure.
- ECPs can customize heat and compression across each easy-to-visualize treatment zone.

The iLux 2 is a small handheld device that allows our team to comfortably heat your eyelid glands, melting the clogged oil in them. We can then use the device to gently express the oil from the glands.
The Systane® iLux²® is a portable, handheld device designed to help eye care professionals evaluate and treat MGD. Meibomian gland imaging allows patients to see the condition of their glands, helping educate them about the need for treatment.
The Systane® iLux²® system allows you to target dysfunctional meibomian glands, improving signs and symptoms of MGD through customizable, localized heat and compression therapy. It delivers fast and efficacious treatment1,2 while allowing patients to visualize their results post-procedure through HD video replay.
